Branding Is More Than a Photoshoot. It’s Your Identity.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about branding photography and what I actually want it to become.
Because I don’t want to just photograph someone standing in front of a backdrop, give them 30 beautiful photos, and call it branding.
I want to know who you are.
Not just what you do.
There are thousands of hairstylists, dental professionals, realtors, makeup artists, photographers, coaches, designers and business owners.
But there is only one you.
And that is the part I want to build the brand around.
So… Who Are You Behind the Business?
If you’re a hairstylist, I already know you do hair.
But what kind of hairstylist are you?
Maybe you’re obsessed with colour and you want people to come to you because they know they can be creative, loud and completely themselves.
Maybe your world is quiet luxury, beautiful blondes, clean interiors and an elevated experience.
Those are two completely different brands.
They shouldn’t have the same photos.
They shouldn’t have the same logo.
They shouldn’t have the same business card.
And they definitely shouldn’t have the same social media presence.
That’s where I think branding needs to go.
Your business should feel like you.
And when someone discovers you online, I want them to understand that feeling before they ever meet you.
Meet Gia
This is Gia, a dental hygienist who is working toward building her own business in dental hygiene and teeth whitening.
We recently did a traditional branding session together, professional portraits, dental tools, laptop and a few fun props to give her a variety of content she can use as she builds her business.
And I love these photos and her obviously!
But sessions like this have also made me think about what could come next.
What if we went further than creating beautiful branding photographs?
What if, before the camera ever came out, we really figured out:
Who is Gia as a brand?
What does she want her business to feel like? Who does she want to attract? What parts of her personality should people immediately recognize? What colours, graphics, videos, styling and content would actually feel like her?
That’s the direction Kate and I want to explore with our new Branding Experience.
Not Everyone Feels Comfortable in Front of a Camera
And I know this is a huge part of it.
You can have an incredible business and still absolutely hate having your photograph taken.
You can know exactly what you're doing professionally and suddenly forget what to do with your hands the second somebody points a camera at you.
That’s normal.
And that’s another reason I don't want this experience to begin when you walk onto the set.
Kate is also a confidence coach, as well as a nurse, and we're incorporating confidence and mindset into what we're building.
Before your session, there can be space to work on how you want to show up, how you see yourself and how you want to feel in front of the camera.
And on shoot day, you're not expected to arrive knowing how to model.
That's my job.
I’ll direct you through posing, movement and expression. We’ll already have planned your wardrobe and concepts. Hair and makeup will be taken care of.
You get to show up and be looked after.
And Then We Create Content While You're There
This is where I think it gets really fun.
Imagine arriving at the studio and getting your hair and makeup done.
While you're getting ready, we might film a casual Q&A.
Who are you?
Why did you start your business?
What's something your clients always ask you?
What's something people would never guess about you?
Suddenly, we haven't just created a portrait.
We've created an introduction.
Instead of wondering what you're going to post for the next few weeks, you leave with an entire little world of content built around your business.
Because People Want to Know Who They're Booking
We're living in such a digital world now.
Your Instagram can be someone's first introduction to you.
Your website can be your storefront.
A reel can be the reason someone discovers your business.
And especially with personal brands and service-based businesses, people aren't only choosing the service.
They're choosing the person providing it.
Before someone books you, they may want to know your personality. They want to understand your style. They want to know whether they can trust you. Sometimes they simply want to feel like you're their kind of person.
I think that's incredibly important.
So rather than trying to make every business look perfectly corporate, I want to help people become more recognizable.
I want someone to see your content and think:
Oh. That's so her.
That's branding to me.
Photography Is Only One Piece
And this is also where Lara Grace Creative Studio is growing.
Photography will always be a huge part of what I do, but I don't want to stop at photography.
Between our team, we're bringing together creative direction, photography, videography, content creation, graphic design and confidence coaching.
That means eventually we can look at the bigger picture.
Your photography.
Your video content.
Your colours.
Your graphics.
Your business cards.
Your logo.
Your social presence.
Your overall visual identity.
Not because every single thing has to match perfectly, but because everything should feel like it came from the same person and the same world.
The Branding Experience
This is the experience I'm beginning to introduce through Lara Grace Creative Studio.
More than a photoshoot. A complete experience built around your brand.
It is designed for business owners, creatives and personal brands who want something beyond traditional headshots.
$1000 CAD + HST
The Branding Experience includes a pre-shoot creative consultation, personalized concept and moodboard, wardrobe planning, professional hair and makeup, up to a two-hour photography session, up to three looks and two nearby locations.
You'll receive full posing and movement direction throughout the shoot, 30 professionally edited images and one professionally edited branding reel, delivered through a private online gallery within two weeks.
How It Works
01. Consultation
First, we talk. I want to learn about you, your business, your goals and where you want your brand to go.
02. Planning
Then we build the visual world around it. Your concept, moodboard, wardrobe and overall creative direction are planned before shoot day.
03. Shoot Day
This is your day.
Hair and makeup first, followed by a fully directed photography and video session. We'll create different looks and concepts while capturing both the polished side of your business and the personality behind it.
04. Delivery
You'll receive 30 professionally edited photographs and one branding reel, ready to begin using across your website, social media, marketing and brand.
But First, We're Experimenting
Before fully launching this new direction, Kate and I are doing three test branding experiences.
And I actually want that experimentation period.
I want us to try things. To see what works, what we can add, what makes someone feel confident and cared for, and what turns a regular branding session into an experience someone genuinely remembers.
These first three sessions will give us the space to create, experiment and really develop what we want The Branding Experience to become.
And after September, I’ll begin opening these sessions more officially.
I’m really excited to see where we take this.
Because I don’t just want to photograph your business.
I want us to help you build a brand that feels like you.
